Tennis Tigers struggles in losses to Hawks, Knights

Mountain Home High School's tennis team found the going tough as they faced losses to Skyview and Bishop Kelly last week.

The Tigers' tennis team hosted Skyview at Richard Aguirre Park on March 14 where they faced shutouts by the Hawks.

In boys' singles, both Miguel Pelletier and Anthony DeSantis lost, 2-6, 0-6, while Owen Ostberg went down, 0-6, 1-6. In boys' doubles, Abram Martin and Jean Gilliland lost a tough battle, 4-6, 1-6, while the team of Kaden Spencer and Ben Vogl dropped a 0-6, 1-6 match.

The girls' team met a similar loss to Skyview in singles play where Rebecca Martin lost, 2-6, 1-6, Rhyan Kelley fell, 1-6, 1-6, and Caitlyn Whitfield went down, 1-6, 0-6. In girls' doubles, Cassidy McLean and Alaina Groom were blanked, 0-6, 0-6, while Natalie Moyett and Erica Martinez lost, 2-6, 0-6.

Both mixed doubles teams struggled in their matches with Brandon Hultenius and Simone Aguero going down, 1-6, 0-6, while Luis Pedroza and Tayde Rodriguez lost, 0-6, 1-6.

"Although the scores don't show it, our players played pretty tough against a very strong Skyview team," said Coach Tamzy House. "We were in every point and got to deuce numerous times but could not close out the individual games. That skill will increase with more match play, especially for our more inexperienced players."

On Thursday, the Tiger tennis squad traveled to Bishop Kelly where they faced a pair of shutouts by the Knights.

In boys' singles, Miguel Pelletier lost, 1-6, 2-6, while Eddie Guadarrama lost in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 3-6, and Alex Buchholz was blanked, 0-6, 0-6. The boys' doubles team of Abram Martin and Jean Gilliland lost a back and forth match, 4-6, 3-6, while Kaden Spencer and Ben Vogl went down, 2-6, 0-6.

The girls' team had similar results in singles action with Rebecca Martin losing, 0-6, 1-6, Rhyan Kelley going down, 0-6, 4-6, and Caitlyn Whitfield finishing, 2-6, 1-6. In girls' doubles, Cassie Dearing and Aynssa Garza, lost 1-6, 0-6, while Cassidy McLean and Alaina Groom fell, 0-6, 3-6.

Both mixed doubles teams struggled with Brandon Hultenius and Vanessa Sabol losing, 2-6, 4-6, and Luis Pedroza and Simone Aguero getting blanked, 0-6, 0-6.

On Tuesday, the Tigers played against Emmett at Richard Aguirre Park and host Caldwell on Thursday, March 23.
