Elks offering scholarships

Representatives with the Mountain Home Elks Lodge announced plans to offer three scholarships to graduating seniors in the local area.

The Past Exalted Rulers will present a $500 scholarship to a Mountain Home senior planning to attend a vocational-technical or trade school during the 2017 to 2018 academic year. The scholarship is good for one year upon the student's graduation and is presented upon proof of enrollment in a post secondary education program.

The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks will present a pair of $500 scholarships to Mountain Home High School seniors planning to attend a vocational-technical or trade school during the 2017 to 2018 academic year.

To qualify for both scholarships, applicants need to maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average an must include a letter of recommendation from one of their current teachers. Applications for both scholarship programs are due by April 14 by contacting the school's guidance office.

Meanwhile, the Idaho State Elks Association will present a total of $1,300 in scholarship money to three Idaho high school students as part of its Teenager of the Year Award. To qualify, students need to maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.0 along with a history of community service.

Applicant must include a four-by-six inch portrait along with three letters of recommendation, including one from a teacher that best knows the student. Applications submitted locally are due to the Mountain Home Elks Lodge by March 30.

Legion Riders offer scholarship

The American Legion Riders will offer four scholarships to graduating seniors as well as local veterans, military members and their spouses as part of the 2017 to 2018 academic year. Funds for these scholarships were collected during the Legion Riders' recent community project in which members harvested trees and split and delivered firewood to people in the local area.
