Flood warning issued

Wednesday, February 8, 2017

The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for northeastern Elmore County until 10:45 a.m. Friday due to anticipated rain and above-freezing temperatures that are expected to rapidly melt the snow pack across the area.

Flooding was reported in the Tipanuk area with rain expected to turn to snow in elevations above 7,000 feet in the mountains across the northern half of the county, said Elmore County Undersheriff Greg Berry.

Police Press Release

Warmer weather, rain, and melting snow have caused flooding in Elmore County. Mostly the Oasis, Beaman, and Glenns Ferry areas have been affected. The City of Mountain Home has had minimal flooding, which is currently under control at the present time. Road crews have been working full-time watching the storm drains and keeping the flooding under control the best they can and it's working for the most part, so please be patient as road crews continue to work hard.

"Most likely we're going to be getting more flooding with the amount of melting snow, rain, and warmer temperatures. Water can rise very quickly in a matter of minutes in low-lying areas because there is no place for it to go," stated Sheriff Mike Hollinshead. "Please be sure to watch the drains in front of your property to make sure they are not blocked. Our priority is your safety, so it's important to me that you feel safe. Please call 911 if you have an emergency."

Mountain Home Public Works has a limited number of sandbags available. They are located at 1150 South Main. They have a large pile of sand at their facility as well. You will have to bring your own sandbags and shovels once the sandbags run out. Please call Public Works at 208-587-2108 if you have any questions.
