Benefitting the community

Bret Young is joined by his fellow firefighters from the Mountain Home Fire Department along with city councilman Jimmy Schipani as they present a $2,500 check to Carla Hawk and Lisa Harvell from the local Shop With A Cop program during a meeting Thursday evening. The fire department made the donation following a community safety day event held at the local Wal-Mart.

Police Cpl. Stan Franks, president of the Mountain Home Police Association, is joined by other city officers as they present a $2,000 check to Hawk and Harvell during an informal gathering last week. The police association made the presentation as the local non-profit group continues its effort to raise money for the yearly program, which allows selected children in the local community to purchase gifts for their families in time for Christmas. Wal-Mart provided the money to both agencies as part of its Volunteerism Always Pays program, which encourages its employees to get involved in various volunteer efforts in their community.
