Guadalupe Garza

Guadalupe "Lupe" Garza, our matriarch, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to all she met, passed on Jan. 29, 2017. A private service was held Feb. 3, 2017, at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.

Lupe was born in Nayarit, Mexico, on June 14, 1943. She ventured to the United States at a young age. She met her husband, Alejandro Garza, and were married on June 23, 1960, and started their lives as migrant workers.

They raised their family of six and settled in Mountain Home. She worked in the fields for many years until she found her true calling as a cook at the popular DI Restaurant. She worked as a cook up until she retired and dedicated herself to taking care of her beloved great-grandchildren.

Our mother had three loves in her life: number one -- her family and friends, number two -- her ultimate favorite football team Dallas Cowboys and number three -- John Cena. The order changed depending on the events of the day. There was not one game she would miss, gathered around her boys, cheering on her team.

Mother loved being with her family and surrounded by friends. She knew no stranger, and no stranger was a stranger to her.

Mother is survived by her daughters, Maria "Pelanche" Reynolds (Walter), Nora Lee Garza Gudino (Jose) and Sonia Garza; sons John Garza and Eugenio "Gino" Garza (Rebecca Jenkins); daughter in-law Deloris Mayger Garza; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alejandro Garza; her son, Alfonzo "Fonz" Garza; and granddaughter Kaelyn R. Garza.

Lupe's family would like to thank the EMT responders and the hospital staff that did their best to keep our mother from leaving us. Also to Rost Funeral Home in all their help in our grieving and helping us give our mother her final good bye.
