Promoting children's health

Blue Cross of Idaho Foundation representative Courtney Frost, second from left, is joined by North Elementary School Principal Anita Straw, Mayor Rich Sykes, St. Luke's Elmore medical center administrator Mike Blauer and hospital representative Cassie Wenner as Frost presented a total of $1,250 to the school during a meeting on Dec. 14. The foundation presented thousands of dollars to schools across the state following this year's Mayor's School Walking Challenge. The effort was designed to improve children's health by inspiring them to walk or run at school with mayors acting as role models for students and to encourage participation throughout the city. Walking represents one of the best ways for children to stay healthy, said Blauer, who encouraged the students to remain active. Money presented to the school will help purchase equipment to help students remain warm during the winter months.
