Tommy Doyle "Tom" Berry, age 64, passed away Nov. 29, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital in Boise. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2016, at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.

Tom was born Aug. 23, 1952 in Cheyenne, Wyo., to Charles and Leola Berry. Tom was the youngest of four children. The family moved back home to Idaho after his birth.

Tom grew up and attended school in Boise. In 1970, Tom married Cindy Strayer, and they had three children.

Tom realized his life's calling and passion in 1972 when he became a Boise City Reserve Police Officer. He served as a reserve officer from 1972 to 1976. In 1977, Tom moved his family to Bruneau, Idaho, where he continued his law enforcement career as an Owyhee County Deputy.

In 1981, Tom took a position with the Elmore County Sheriff's Office as a deputy and moved his family to Glenns Ferry. As an Elmore County deputy, Tom excelled and eventually became a detective.

In 1994, Tom was appointed as Chief of Police for the city of Mountain Home. He proudly served as Chief of Police until 2007. Tom loved law enforcement and touched many lives during his long career as a police officer.

Tom is survived by his mother, Leola Berry of Boise; and his three sisters, Ilona Rowan of Boise, Vicki Mitchell of Boise and Charlene Perkins of Oregon. He is also survived by his three children, Jennifer Hartway of Kuna, Thomas Berry of Boise and Andrea Berry of Boise and six grandchildren. He is also survived by his wife, Cheryl Berry of Mountain Home. Tom is preceded in death by his father, Charles Berry.

Tom loved the outdoors and fishing. He was an animal lover and always had pets. Tom's service to his community will not be forgotten, and he will be remembered for his outstanding law enforcement career, the love he had for his family and his sense of humor.
