Mountain Home High School's Talkin' Tigers speech and debate team started off the new season on a positive note following strong performances at the Beehive Invitational Tournament at the University Of Utah and the Metro Tournament at Capital High School in Boise.

At the Utah tournament, senior Logan Potter finished third in Lincoln-Douglas debate while finishing third in duo interpretation with her partner, Lexi Ogaard. Ogaard was also the seventh leading speaker in the Lincoln-Douglas event.

Meanwhile, Katheryn Lohmeier and her partner, Dante Haeberle, were seventh overall in public forum debate. Potter, who was in the final round of the national Congressional debate last summer, was second in Lincoln-Douglas debate at the Metro Tournament with a 7-2 record.

Two of the Talkin' Tigers' public forum debate teams also turned in solid efforts as Aleana Giles and Devin Kuntz along with Lohmeier and Haeberle posted 3-2 records.

In addition, Haeberle also won the Elmore County Soil and Water Conservation District speech contest with Lohmeier coming in second and Jessie Page finishing third overall. Haeberle went on to win the regional speech contest and now will move on to the state final in November.
