Effort spruces up downtown

City parks and recreation crews had tools and equipment ready when the first of about 30 local residents arrived to start a project to give downtown streets a deep cleaning last week.

About 30 local residents showed up to give streets and sidewalks in the city's downtown area thorough cleaning during a community project Aug. 9.

Among the volunteers were five high school students from the Caldwell Mayor's Youth Advisory Council, who got involved in the project after Mayor Rich Sykes won four hours of their services during a charity raffle earlier this year.
