Letter to the Editor

Use money for a rec center

Wednesday, June 22, 2016

Dear editor,

I agree with both letters in this week's paper (June 15 Mountain Home News), but I want to comment on Jim and Karen Bird's letter. I am in total agreement.

Years ago, I was a volunteer for the WECRD. I personally canvassed my neighborhood and beyond to collect signatures to determine those in favor of building a rec center. It was not an easy task to do because I am handicapped (I had polio in 1952).

I also put in office hours at the WERCD and joined in the activities. I made monetary contributions, etc. etc. I feel I did every thing I could to help make it happen. I did so with a happy heart.

I personally need to swim for therapy as this is what is recommended for my post-polio condition. I know others as well who would benefit from a year round swimming facility. There are actually quite a few of us.

I am a citizen of Mountain Home; a taxpayer. From a personal point of view, I feel building a new skateboard park for a few is an insult; a hit below the belt. This is not what the money was intended for.

To begin with, the money was intended for recreational center with a year-round swimming facility for all people. I would hope things can still turn around.

Still hoping.
