Wildfire on Frontage Road

Local firefighters battled a brushfire on the corner of Frontage Road and Canal Road in Mountain Home on Monday afternoon. It appeared as if the fire was under control a short time later.

A call to Elmore County Emergency Dispatch came in around 1:30 p.m. concerning a brushfire on Frontage Road. The Mountain Home Rural Fire Department and Elmore County Sheriff's responded to the scene.

According to eye witnesses, the fire started near a home under construction and spread rapidly eastward toward a home on the corner of Canal Road. Another witness said at least two horses panicked because of the fire and were running loose in the area.

Local resident Sandy said, Eeyore, her burro got loose for a while but she caught him and walked the animal to safety.

At least four fire engine from the rural department fought the fire. The fire also spread to the grassy area between Frontage Road and the eastbound lane of Interstate 84 that was quickly extinguished.
