Tigers pick up individual wins, match victories elusive

Tennis Tigers honored during senior night May 3 were from left starting in the back row David Parrett, Abrahan Salas, Nathan Gibbons and Parker Noyce and in the front row Mady McCurdy and Emily Hensley.

Mountain Home High School's tennis team picked up some needed wins in individual play but still came up short as they faced teams from Middleton, Wood River and The Community School last week.

For the second time this season, the Tigers were blanked by the Vikings as the Mountain Home team celebrated senior day on May 3.

In boys' singles play, Nathan Gibbons almost went three sets but lost in a second set tiebreaker, 0-6, 6-7. Meanwhile, Miguel Pelletier lost, 0-6, 2-6 while Alex Buchholz went down, 0-6, 0-6.

In boys doubles, Abram Martin and Jean Gilliland lost, 1-6, 0-6, while Abrahan Salas and David Parrett, lost 0-6, 1-6. In mix doubles, Brandon Hultenius and Mady McCurdy lost, 1-6, 0-6, while Parker Noyce and Jessica Noyce were blanked, 0-6, 0-6.

In girls' singles, Rebecca Martin lost, 1-6, 0-6, Caitlyn Whitfield fell, 0-6, 0-6, while Krystallyn Raab went down, 2-6, 0-6.

During the afternoon, the Tigers honored six of its graduating seniors at the city tennis courts at Richard Aguirre Park. Those recognized were boys team captain Nathan Gibbons and girls team captain Mady McCurdy along with David Parrett, Abrahan Salas, Emily Hensley and Parker Noyce.

The Tigers tennis team traveled to Sun Valley Resort on May 5 where they played against the Wood River Wolverines and The Community School Cutthroats in a tri-match format.

In their second meeting of the season, both the Tigers' boys and girls won some individual matches against the Wolverines but couldn't earn enough to take the team wins.

In boys singles, Nathan Gibbons lost, 4-6, 2-6, while Miguel Pelletier picked up a win, 6-0, 6-2. Meanwhile, Alex Buchholz fell, 0-6, 3-6.

In boys doubles, Abram Martin and Jean Gilliland lost, 2-6, 0-6 while Abrahan Salas and David Parrett fell, 0-6, 2-6. In mix doubles, Brandon Hultenius and Mady McCurdy lost, 1-6, 1-6, while Parker Noyce and Jessica Noyce fell, 2-6, 0-6.

In girls singles, Rebecca Martin won in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2. Rhyan Kelley lost 2-6, 3-6, while Caitlyn Whitfield easily won, 6-0, 6-0.

At girls doubles, Nisa Phelps and Cassie Dearing won in three sets, 5-7, 7-6, 6-1, while Simone Aguero and Emily Hensley lost, 2-6, 6-4, 1-6.
