BMX racing resumes May 15 during Race for Life event

BMX, or off-road bicycle racing, comes back to Mountain Home on May 15 at the Rocky Top race track at Optimist Park. Proceeds from the "Race for Life" race will go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Registration begins at 1 p.m. that day with races set to follow at 2 p.m. Organizer Eric Grohs said the public is welcome to enter the race, and "all they need is a bike, a helmet and long pants."

After a few years of declining participation in organized BMX racing in Mountain Home, a group of volunteers are excited about the possibilities of turning the city's track into a nationally recognized facility.

They also hope to get the community fully involved in the sport of off-road bicycle racing.
