Subdivision a terrible idea

Wednesday, March 23, 2016

Dear editor,

I am writing this little piece to inform all of the folks that started out contesting Jim Carrie Intermountain Development's Blue Sage Subdivision. Many of us are very concerned about our water quality and quantity.

We are not opposed to growth, but are against building now and the near future until the precipitation pattern changes over the next several years.

I live in Trinity Mountain (Jim Carrie #4) subdivision. Our water level has dropped 70-plus feet in the last 10 years. The nitrate levels have DOUBLED over the last 10 years also!

The individual who built this Very fine upstanding Housing tract that I live in doesn't care about us or our situation! But still wants to try and put 53 more straws in the ground less than a half mile from my location -- Money and GREED!

We are right on the edge of our Nitrate level's hitting 10 ppm! This is the state and national level for unsafe drinking water.

I know what I'm talking about. I have been the well maintainer and water association head for six years in the past. I've monitored our situation on my own since. I've also researched water quality issues on line.

This is a desert, people! It was never intended to have this many people here. Mr. Carrie, you're more than welcome to build a subdivision and make a few more bucks in your last years. Go somewhere else -- Boise, etc. -- not on our side of town.

If the water situation gets worse, we will be forced to upgrade our well systems which are currently here. And properties, subdivisions, water utilities within a mile south of I-84 between Canyon Creek and Sunset and Highway 30, some might be forced to take legal action against the approving authorities (county) and the developer, Intermountain Development Jim Carrie.

The Commissioners meeting will be on April 1 at 5 p.m. at the courthouse in the Commissioners' meeting room in the basement. No, this is not a joke.

If you are as committed, concerned and fearful of having no water to drink, and not just be able to shower or water your lawn, show up. Pretty soon, the billboard sign on the freeway that Flying J rents will say, "Come visit Mountain Home Ghost Town." We do import bottled water. It will be like going to Mexico ( DON'T DRINK THE WATER)!

Want to hear the facts about some of the questionable things (backdoor deals) on this particular development that are trying to transpire, call me. If you were at the May 1 Planning and Zoning meeting, call me!
