Presidential primary races held Tuesday

Wednesday, March 2, 2016

Voters across Elmore County will participate in a process starting Tuesday that will determine which of the current candidates will represent their respective political parties in November.

Idaho is one of four states that will hold primary elections and presidential caucuses Tuesday to select delegates for their respective parties.

Locally, the primary elections involve candidates running for the Republican Constitution parties.

Voters participating in either primary can cast their votes at their respective precincts the day of the elections, which open to the public at 8 a.m. that day. Those living in Atlanta, Chattin Flats, Pine and Prairie can vote using mail-in ballots or by in-person, same-day voting at the Elmore County Courthouse.

Voters are required to be affiliated with the Republican or Constitution parties to receive a ballot to vote in either race. They are also required to provide photo identification before they can vote either at the polls or at the courthouse.

Meanwhile, registered Democrats in Elmore and Owyhee counties will hold caucuses March 22 to determine which Democratic candidate they want to represent the party in November.

Results from the Republican and Constitution party races will not appear in the March 9 edition of the Mountain Home News. However, initial results will appear on the newspaper's Web site that morning with more extensive coverage planned for the March 16 edition.
