Leads sought in vehicle burglaries

Tuesday, January 26, 2016

The Elmore County Sheriff's Department is asking the public's help in tracking down leads following a series of vehicle burglaries on the north end of Mountain Home.

According to Chief Deputy Mike Barclay, the first case was reported Tuesday morning with investigators now looking at four cases.

The incidents were reported in the vicinity of Carrie Circle and Wilson and McMurtrey drives. Residents reported seeing a dark colored, older model Cadillac in the area that could be connected to the thefts.

The burglaries appeared to be "crimes of opportunity," with the suspects taking advantage of unlocked vehicles, the deputy said. Among the items reported stolen included wallets, sunglasses and electronic devices like iPads.

To discourage thieves, Barclay urges people to lock up their vehicles whenever they are left unattended. Local law enforcement are stepping up patrols in this part of town in hopes of catching the suspects.

Those with any information regarding the crimes are asked to call the county dispatch office at 587-2100 or the city police department at 587-2101. People may also submit tips anonymously by going online to www.mhpd.net and selecting the "silent witness" link.
