Negotiations break down over county trash issue

Saturday, January 9, 2016
The Bennett Road transfer station can't be used to permanently dispose of household waste until the state certifies the property again. Elmore County is actively exploring the process of reopening the landfill, but the process will likely take close to a year to complete. Currently, the transfer station is only used to transfer trash from local trash hauling services to the regional landfill on Simco Road.

Tense contract negotiation between the county commissioners and Idaho Waste Systems broke down during a meeting Thursday afternoon over a number of landfill and trash fee issues.

Yarbrough's company also runs the county's garbage transfer station on Bennett Road.
