The Mountain Home School District is looking for a new trustee to the school board after Luise House announced her resignation during a meeting Dec. 15.

House had served as a board representative for trustee District 2 since July 1989 with her term scheduled to end in June 2017.

"I have truly enjoyed the privilege of representing our community on behalf of the students and staff of District 193 and will continue to take pride in your accomplishments as you all work to move education in Mountain Home forward," House said in her letter to the school board.

In May, voters in the Mountain Home area named three new people to the school board in an election that unseated two long-standing representatives. Former school board chairman Jim Alexander lost to Eric Abrego in the race for Trustee Zone 5, marking the first time in 27 years that a new trustee filled that seat.

Meanwhile, Ralph Binion III won by a nine-vote margin over incumbent Richard "Rick" Checketts to win the Trustee Zone 3 seat during that race. New school board chairman Jack Walborn ran unopposed for the seat in Trustee Zone 1 after Toni Reynolds stepped down from her seat on the school board.

House's resignation leaves Connie Donahue as the last trustee with more than six month's experience. The representative for Trustee Zone 4 was elected to the board in January 2013.

Those eligible to run for the vacant trustee seat include registered voters ages 18 and up who live in the Trustee Zone 2 area, which covers the northwest side of Mountain Home and a portion of the city's downtown area. Applications are available at the school district's administration office at 470 North 3rd East St. and online at www.mtnhomesd.org/elections--appointments.html.

Applications are due to the school board clerk by Jan. 12.
