MHHS announces inductees for 2016 hall of fame

Friday, December 4, 2015

In an announcement last week, representatives from Mountain Home High School named 10 individuals affiliated with the school for its hall of fame.

Those being inducted into the 2016 Mountain Home High School Athletic Hall of Fame are Rich Pease, Brent Pease, Lloyd Schiller, Jim Lemmon, Will Gulley, Nickayla Skinner, Joy Memmelar, Barb Buchan, Kenny West and Mori Townsend.

Set to celebrate its second observance next month, selection for the hall of fame includes students or staff members deemed as worthy or outstanding individuals and not simply the "best athlete in the graduating class," said high school athletic director Mark Cotton.

Those considered for the distinction recognize their contributions to the school's overall athletic program, including and service, attitude, citizenshup, leadership, school spirit and scholarship, he added. It includes former athletes or members of the school's coaching staff along with others affiliated with the Tigers.

All inductees will be recognized at halftime during the Tigers boys basketball game Jan. 15.

"Come out to the game that night to show support for these distinguished alumni," Cotton said.

The formal induction ceremony follows the evening of Jan. 16 at the Mountain Home Elks Lodge. Social hour for the induction event begins at 5 p.m. at the Elks Lodge with the ceremony following at 6 p.m.

Organizers are limiting the recognition dinner to 300 guests, and Cotton encourages people to register in advance. In addition to having a chance to catch up with old friends, the ceremony is an opportunity "to support the tremendous athletes and coaches that have walked the halls of Mountain Home High School," Cotton said.

During its debut in January, the high school welcomed 13 individuals, including all-star athletes, staff members, school board representatives and radio personalities, into the inaugural hall of fame. Many of those individuals graduated from Mountain Home High School and went on to compete in college athletic programs, professional sports and the U.S. Olympic team.

Cotton believes this program will have a direct impact on the students that attend Mountain Home High School.

"When our students walk into the foyer and see what these alumni from Mountain Home have accomplished, it will serve as an inspiration that Mountain Home High School is a great place to set the foundation for future success," he said.
