Have the knack for creating a festive outdoor Christmas light display? The Mountain Home News is hosting a Christmas light decorating contest. People may submit the address of their decorated home or business starting today, Nov. 25. Voting for the best lighting display begins Dec. 16.

Newspaper hosts holiday outdoor lighting contest

Those showcasing their Christmas spirit could walk away with an assortment of prizes through the Mountain Home News' "Christmas Lights Contest."

The contest allows people in the community to select a home or business they feel has the most festive outdoor Christmas light display.

The winner will be determined by the total number of votes received on the Mountain Home News website and on its Facebook page.

The winner will receive a six-month subscription to the newspaper, a special Christmas stocking filled with holiday treats and a photograph of their light display featured on the newspaper's website.

There are three ways people can enter the contest. In each case, they need to include their name, address and daytime phone number.

* In person: Stop by the newspaper office at 195 South 3rd East St.

* By phone: Call the newspaper office at 587-3331.

* E-mail: Send a messaage to typesetting@mountainhomenews.com using the subject line "Christmas lights contest."

Contest rules and guidelines:

* The contest is open to all individuals and businesses within the city of Mountain Home.

* The contest is limited to outdoor light displays only.

* Entries are due by noon on Wednesday, Dec. 9.

* The newspaper staff will start taking nighttime photographs of people's outdoor Christmas displays the evening of Dec. 9 and continue through the evening of Dec. 15.

* Voting begins on the Mountain Home News website on Dec. 16 and ends at noon Dec. 21. People may vote at www.mountainhomenews.com and on its Facebook page.

* Addresses of the entries will be listed in the print edition of the newspaper for people's convenience.

* Photographs of the entries will be viewable only on the newspaper's website. This ensures people unable to visit each location can still enjoy all of these displays

* The winner will be the Christmas light display that gets the most on-line votes by noon Dec. 21.
