Council favors water fee increase

Monthly water and wastewater rates are expected to increase by 3 percent under a plan being considered by the city council.

Local residents are expected to pay slightly more for the water they use after the city council approved a three percent rate hike Nov. 9.

During last week's public meeting, Mayor Tom Rist said the city has consistently increased the fees it charges for water over the last five years.

Those increases were mainly to keep up with inflation but also for the overall maintenance of the system's infrastructure, he added.
