YMCA offers great program

Wednesday, November 4, 2015

Dear editor,

I would like to draw attention to the outstanding new program that has come to Mountain Home-YMCA basketball. This program started last week for boys K-6th grade.

I signed my son up for this program. He loves basketball.

In year's past, he participated in the program that Parks and Recreation put on and had a great time. The YMCA basketball has taken the training and quality of basketball to the next level.

The first practice was last week. I didn't know what to expect because I have never lived in a place that had a YMCA, but I was pleasantly surprised.

The boys have a former BSU women's basketball player coaching them while teams are being divided. That is something my son didn't have access to prior.

The enthusiasm and positive attitude the YMCA staff have that are working with the boys is contagious. Not only do they teach basketball skills but they teach character also.

The extra hours of practice and league experience these boys will get is going to make a huge difference. I can't wait to see the future High School/Jr High basketball teams when these boys are coming up through the ranks after having a basketball league experience.

We will have better players for our school teams in a few years. If anyone would like to enroll their son in this program they are still accepting applicants.

Wednesday night practice is at West Elementary school. In the gym, there is only one hoop. Dane with the YMCA said they are going to look into donating another hoop to put on the other end of the gym.

I love that the YMCA would like to improve our facilities and has the resources to do so. In my opinion, having the YMCA in our community is a great asset. I really hope they can stay.
