Election 2015: Sykes wins mayoral race

Tuesday, November 3, 2015

For the first time in eight years, Mountain Home will usher in a new mayor after Rich Sykes won a majority of the votes during Tuesday's election.

According to initial results released by the county elections office following the race, Sykes led all the mayoral candidates with more than 54 percent of the total vote.

Meanwhile, the Mountain Home city council will see a new person on the board after local business owner Mark Anthony Bryant narrowly edged out two-term Councilman Russ Anderson during the council race. Councilman Jimmy Schipani received the most votes during the three-person council race.

The Glenns Ferry City Council will also see two new faces on the board after Susan E. Case and Kenneth D. Thompson came out victorious. They defeated incumbent council representatives Traci Stewart and Dewey "Alan" Crane as well as challenger John Isenhart.

Meanwhile, the fate of a community recreation center in Mountain Home could drastically change direction after two members of the board went down in defeat Tuesday evening. In what was considered by some voters as one of the most contested elections in Elmore County this week, the Western Elmore County Recreation District will see new board members after challenger Art Nelson defeated incumbent Jana Borgholthaus.

Meanwhile, Rachelle Ruffing, who was appointed to the board last year, was defeated by Judy Mayne.

Details on the unofficial election results will appear in the Nov. 4 edition of the Mountain Home News.
