Open house planned at Hacker

The roof at Hacker Middle School leaks each time it rains or snows with water dripping into hallways at classrooms at the school.

Mountain Home School District officials will host an open house at Hacker Middle School on July 28 to address concerns regarding the condition of the building and the steps being taken to address those issues.

Open to the public, the open house runs from 10 a.m. to noon that day at the building on East Jackson Street with district superintendent leading the building tours every 30 minutes.

The middle school is one of several buildings in the school district needing significant repairs or upgrades, with some presenting a health and safety hazard to students and staff using these buildings, district officials said. The middle school was identified by the district as the one needing the most attention due to significant problems with the roof, which leaks every time it rains or snows with water seeping into classrooms and hallways.

Water damage associated with the school's leaky roof prompted the school district to shut down some classrooms due to safety concerns.

The issue has prompted district officials to shut down some of the classrooms at Hacker due to safety concerns, including falling ceiling tiles.

The tour comes as the district plans to introduce a ballot measure in August regarding a plant facility levy, which if approved by voters would give the district the funding it needs to fix the problems at Hacker and at other schools.

  • If the district would quit watering West Elem. twice a day and mowing it twice a week, they could start saving some of the TAX PAYER'S MONEY!!

This has been going on for years.
