Leigh Herbert Landergren, 82 of Mountain Home, lived his life the way he wanted all the way to the end. He died in his home on June 12, 2015, as he desired.

Leigh was born in Bennington, Vt., on Oct. 13, 1932, to Herbert Malcolm and Alpheda Mary (Turgeon) Landergren.

Leigh joined the United States Air Force at 17 years old. He went straight to the Korean War right out of basic training.

He was stationed all over the world serving his country. He had two tours in Vietnam, where he received a Purple Heart.

Leigh loved being outdoors. His passions were to hunt and fish, which he did to the very end. He also loved gardening, woodworking and sitting on his porch drinking Hamm's.

Leigh was full of knowledge in many fields. He was a great mentor and a compassionate friend willing to help anyone.

He was blessed with many friends and those who knew him are fortunate. He will be missed immensely.

Leigh requested a brief graveside service, which he will receive full military honors, on June 24, 2015, at 12:30 p.m., followed by a gathering of friends, where they will celebrate his life at the American Legion Post 26.

Arrangements are under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel, in Mountain Home.
