Union files suit against local school board

The teachers union that oversees members from the Mountain Home School District filed a lawsuit against the local school board last week over an ongoing dispute regarding teacher contracts.

The lawsuit contends that the Mountain Home School Board failed to abide by federal labor laws when it declared an impasse last June after both sides failed to reach a compromise during a series of negotiations.

The recent school board townhall sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce gave no indication that there was any impending legal action by the union. I detected some ruffled feathers about policy vs contract requirements but nothing of this magnitude. Was this lawsuit intended to be hidden from the taxpayers until it was too late for them to be part of the discussion (perhaps in the hope that it would frighten the board into giving in?? or am I reading too much into this?) As a local taxpayer, I vote for a board to represent me in hiring and firing school personnel and promulgating school policy. If there is a hidden agenda (like something not discussed at a public forum??) I want to know who was hiding it and why (whether this is the union or the board).
