Coleen Swenson

The Mountain Home News and its staff are sad to share with our community the passing of Coleen Swenson on Sunday, May 3.

Coleen had been a long-time publisher, not to mention mother, sister, co-worker, teacher of the trade, friend to many and known community supporter of Mountain Home.

She had grown up in the newspaper business and had made it her career from a very tender age, working with her parents and siblings and staying on with the subsequent owners after being named publisher of our newspapers in 1991 until February 2014.

She will be remembered for her unselfish devotion of time and energy to the many projects she chaired and supported as a community leader in worthy causes. Her belief in community support and sharing the news was her legacy.

We wish her daughter, Stacy Swenson, who is a member of our newspaper family as well, peace in her heart and to know that she has our support in this difficult time. Our condolences and sadden hearts are extended to her and Coleen's family.

Rest in peace, Coleener, and fearless leader. You will be missed.

  • If it wasn't for the likes of Coleen there wouldn't be Giving Tree, Crazy Days, Fall Festival, Christmas Parade and so many other activities Chamber and City have been active with for many, many years. She was one of those precious few that followed through in hard work with an idea not waiting for anyone else to make things happen.

I was fortunate enough to be one of her steadfast volunteers over the years. No idea or project was too big or too small for Coleen to act on. I wish there were more like her, she will be greatly missed.
