Brian Bruni, a self-defense instructor with Empowerment Training LLC in Nampa, demonstrates how to use an arm bar takedown on Deputy Jayme Freemantle from the Elmore County Sheriff's Department during a training class on Thursday.

Deputies from the sheriff's department spent the day learning various techniques for subduing aggressive individuals as well as basic self-defense skills during the day.

Deputy Tomi Postelnick practices a basic take-down move on Deputy Scott Grace. The class emphasized the minimum amount of force actually needed in certain situations, especially when dealing with a potentially stronger or significantly taller opponent.
