Banquet highlights African American heritage

Representatives with the Mountain Home Black History Month Committee honored Genara Toy at Friday's banquet as they named her the organization's person of the year.

A century of African American life, history and culture took center stage in Mountain Home during a celebration aimed at fostering a spirit of equality and unity for all people.

Celebrating its 26th anniversary Friday evening, the Mountain Home Black History Banquet represents a legacy brought to life by a team of volunteers with a passion to pause each year to reflect on the accomplishment of all African Americans, said Dr. Mildred W. Ollee, who served as this year's guest speaker.
