Woman dies in shooting incident

A Mountain Home woman died late Tuesday evening in a shooting incident.

Police responded to a residence located off Rockridge Drive around midnight following initial reports of a shooting.

Officers entered the garage of the home and saw the 38-year-old woman unresponsive and not breathing with extensive bleeding from her abdominal area. Police began life-saving measures until ambulance crews arrived.

She was transported to St. Luke's Elmore medical center in Mountain Home where she died from her injuries.

Officers were informed at the scene that she was cleaning a firearm while talking on a telephone with a relative when the shooting occurred. There is no foul play suspected, a police spokesperson said.

The woman's name was not immediately disclosed. The case remains under investigation.
