Alfred Rathbun

Alfred Theodore Rathbun, 71 of Mountain Home, died on Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, at his home.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015, at 11 a.m. with a viewing prior to service running from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Mountain Home Idaho Stake Center, 790 South Haskett St. Dedication of the grave will be on Monday, Feb. 2, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery in Mountain Home. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home.

Alfred T. Rathbun was born April 24, 1943, to Alfred T. Rathbun Sr. and Georgia Hickman in Weaubleau, Mo. He moved to Visalia, Calif., then to Pasco, Wash., to take a course in welding.

He became employed by Ray Tremine for many years. Al worked as a welder at Fiber Strong Machine Company, then later employed at the mines as a welder in Nevada, where he developed arsenic poisoning, which eventually led to his retirement. After retiring, Al moved to Mountain Home.

Al loved to fly his own airplane, scuba dive and raise horses. He had many talents such as carpentry and mechanics, which led him to building his own drilling rig.

Al is survived by his wife of 14 years, Maxine and her four sons; his stepmother, Maria C. Rathbun; sisters Wilma Lee Northup of California, Marquerite Ables of Washington, Lavona Clements of Washington and Hilda Pruett of Oregon; along with many nieces and nephews.

Al is preceded in death by his father and mother and his older brother, William Eberhart.

Alfred was loved and will be missed by all that knew him.
