Commissioners debate appeal regarding music festival permit

Wednesday, December 17, 2014

The Elmore County board of commissioners began this week to discuss whether to grant an appeal regarding a large-scale music festival planned for next summer.

Monday's meeting followed a public hearing the previous week regarding the Mountain Home Country Music Festival, which could draw as many as 25,000 people to the county during the four-day event.

  • I hate it when people run their mouths and have no idea what is coming out of it. I would imagine that you didn't bother to attend the appeal hearing to know that both sides and the commissioners are in favor of the festival, but that there are some legitimate issues that need to be resolved prior to the event happening. Namely life safety issues and those of protecting the area from wildfire. Which has devastated the area in the last couple of years. Could you imagine the counties liability if some tragic event took place. Just another poor attitude playing itself out on a public blog. If you can't say something nice....don't say anything at all...

  • I believe the town needs this event. It would create a significant boost to businesses & I feel the commission understands this. The need for extra fire & safety personnel is a huge burden on the town. The commission needs to make the event organizers aware of the concerns & history of the event site. If this is where the organizers want the event to take place, then they need to put up the extra funds needed (realistic funds) to ensure the safety of the attendees & the property aside from the insurance policy that is mandatory for this size of event. I just hope the commission does not get greedy & over confident that this is the "ONLY" area being considered. Heck, have a surcharge on tickets to cover the added expense for safety personnel. then the show will go on. Just My perspective.
