Letter to the Editor

Maybe voters will think

Wednesday, October 29, 2014

Dear editor:

Sometimes I hate to see an election day coming. Like too many drivers, there are too many voters who have no business being out there. Some Jay Leno "Jay-walking" college kid who doesn't know the capitol city of his home state, has a vote that counts the same as YOURS does, and it's usually for the wrong candidate. I told a friend of mine recently that "I hope the people are THINKING this time."

Whether the GOP takes the Senate back or not, Obama will grant amnesty to the illegals, sometime AFTER the mid-terms. Doesn't matter that they've broken our laws, they will eventually get to vote and their votes will count, just like that "Jay-walker's" does. If the GOP DOESN'T win this on the 4th, the damage will be irreversible. THAT'S why there's been no move to seal the borders. Obama needs votes for his party in 2016, and the illegals will certainly support the party that allowed them to cheat the system, stepping in front of the legal folks. The Dems call it "immigration reform." Yeah, right. John Dillinger never really robbed banks, that was just "financial restructuring."

A GOP Senate take-back would also get rid of Harry Reid, who declares every House bill "DEAD ON ARRIVAL", then in typical Democrat fashion, cries that the other side won't work with him. They "hold America hostage." No Harry, they're holding YOU hostage, trying to keep you and the left from selling our grandkids down the river as well. Reid would still be a Senator, but that's Nevada's problem.

There's a fear among Democrats that if the GOP gets both houses, they'll move to impeach Obama. Do they have a fever or something? With BIDEN next in line? I mean, who else but Uncle Joe would stand in front of a college crowd in North Carolina and proclaim "Isn't it great to be here in Michigan!" (The guy doesn't even know which one of the "57 states" he's in!). Nobody's gonna impeach Obama, things are bad enough as it is.

There's one other thing to consider on the 4th, (not that it really matters in Idaho), the state and local elections. Although Republicans have a history of voting for third-party candidates (for the good of the country), many are still straight-ticket voters.

Most Democrats ARE straight-ticket voters, as some kind of allegiance to their upbringing or college indoctrination. So when you vote for a Democrat in state or local race, DO keep in mind that the (D) candidate has most likely supported this administration.

They might talk about good ideas, but there's a better than even chance they've supported Obama, probably both times. What kind of judgment does THAT show?

Just something to consider.

  • Voting is the privilege - and price - of being part of a democracy, one of the world's greatest experiments. The notion that voting be restricted in any way, shape, or form is abhorrent; there is no such thing as "too many voters." Moreover, we don't regulate the eligibility of people (financial, mental, intellectual or emotional) to have children, or carry guns, or gamble, or drink - all of which have far more of a permanent impact on society as a whole.

Ignorance is not limited to the younger generation. I think you would be appalled (I know I am) at how many people believe the pap spewed by biased reporters on both sides of the aisle and don't bother to do their own research. You would be appalled at how many people aren't aware of the most basic workings of our government.

I've met many - MANY - middle-aged voters who vote party line, or vote without getting an unbiased understanding of the issues and the potential impact of their candidate.

Everyone should get out and vote; and yes, everyone should think about the impact of the vote they cast. But just because the vote they cast isn't the same as mine, it's not wrong. It's a vote cast in favor of the way THEY believe this country should go forward.
