Soccer Tigers drop games against Caldwell, Skyview

The Mountain Home Tigers dropped two conference boys soccer games last week, losing to Caldwell and Skyview.

Caldwell 5, Mountain Home 0

Mountain Home traveled to Caldwell last Tuesday to complete its first time around against conference opponents and fell to the Cougars 5-0.

Jorge Salinas had seven saves on goal for the Tigers in the loss.

Skyview 1, Mountain Home 0

The Tigers hosted Skyview last Wednesday to start the second time through their conference schedule and played much better against the Hawks, losing 1-0 this time. Skyview had beaten the Tigers 5-2 back on Sept. 9 at Skyview.

The Tigers dominated the game from start to finish, but a questionable call with 8:22 left in the game set up a penalty kick that the Hawks got in the net, which proved to be the difference.

Jorge Salinas had 14 saves on goal for the Tigers.

Tiger head coach Mike Torres was proud of the way his team played.

"They played one of the best games I've seen them play all season. They played really well. It's unfortunate that there at the end we had to give up that (penalty kick). "The boy played hard. They came to play today. It's just unfortunate that they had to lose the way we did."

Despite the losses, the coach added that his team played with their hearts and never gave up.

The Tigers head into this week's games 1-4 in conference play and 2-9-1 overall. Coach Torres hopes to use the momentum from their effort against Skyview in this week's games. They were at Bishop Kelly Monday and host Middleton today, Oct. 1.

"We definitely need that momentum," the coach said. "We had that one win last week, and we're looking good, and it showed today as well. We'll rebound and come back hard next game."

The Middleton game has a 5:30 p.m. starting time at Eastside Park.
