Joe Peck performs Scotland the Brave as he took the stage Saturday morning during Mountain Home's first-ever Highland Games.

Held in Carl Miller Park, the event introduced the community to Scottish and Celtic cultures.

Hosted by the Scottish American Athletic Association in Boise, many of the visitors showcased their Highland pride by wearing kilts and other authentic attire.

Billy Carroll uses an Irish two-handed sword to slice a pumpkin in half during the first of two demonstrations on Saturday. Carroll discussed the history of swords and their unique characteristics while helping clarify their specific uses in battle.
Garrett Middleton from Victor, Mont., hurls a metal ball across the field next to Carl Miller Park during the weight for distance event. Participants from across southern Idaho and surrounding states came to Mountain Home to test their skills during a series of traditional Scottish and Celtic games, all of which tested the physical abilities of each athlete. Events featured during the Highland Games were similar in nature to their modern-day Olympic game competitions.
