Lady Tigers soar, boys stall

Thursday, September 11, 2014

The Mountain Home Lady Tigers soccer squad posted their first win while the boys' team continued to struggle as this year's season continued.

The Lady Tigers had just one game last week and made the most of it, shutting out the visiting Jerome Lady Tigers, 10-0, last Tuesday at Eastside Park.

Mountain Home scored four first-half goals and added six more in the second half as they dominated throughout.

Jacey Carr and Violet Martinez both scored four goals and Jordan Paige added two. Missy Jessup had four saves on goal.

"I want to first congratulate the girls on their win. We looked a little better with our passes, and we were trying a new formation today, and they adjusted well to that," said Mountain Home girls soccer coach Kent Ogaard.

"It's tough when you're playing in a game that's not as high tempo, or a little more competitive, but they did well," the coach added. "I'm glad that some girls got some different looks in different positions. It's a good feeling to take into our Skyview conference game next week."

Mountain Home improved to 2-3 on the season.

They opened their conference season Monday at home against Skyview.

Their game at Twin Falls, originally set for Sept. 6, was postponed to Sept. 13.

In boys' soccer action last week, the Tigers dropped two games to Jerome and Middleton.

Jerome 6, Mountain Home 0

Mountain Home went on the road last Tuesday to Jerome, hoping to avenge an earlier home loss to Jerome, but were again shut out 6-0.

Jorge Salinas had ten saves on goal as goalkeeper for the Mountain Home varsity soccer squad.

"The boys played tough," said Mountain Home boys soccer coach Mike Torres. "We were a man down about 20 minutes into the game and played the rest of the way with just 10 guys, but they played tough."

Middleton 6, Mountain Home 2

Mountain Home opened its conference schedule Thursday at Middleton, losing to the Vikings 6-2.

Alex Domingues scored a goal for the Tigers and Jorge Salinas had eight saves on goal.

"The kids played well," said Coach Torres following the Middleton game. "I know it's tough for the boys, losing all these games, but they're playing really well."

The Tigers have another busy week this week. They were back in conference play Tuesday at Skyview, host Bishop Kelly in conference action on Thursday, and host Twin Falls on Saturday.
