Don Westbrook

Donald (Don) Richard Westbrook, 74, died of a heart attack Sept. 4, 2014, at Madison Memorial Hospital in Rexburg, Idaho.

A memorial service with military honors will be held on Friday, Sept. 12, at 1 p.m. at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.

He leaves behind his wife of 53 years, Charlene (Smith) Westbrook, and his sons, Barry Westbrook and Troy Westbrook (wife Grace), and his daughter Andrea Smith (husband Peyton). He also leaves three sisters, Wanda, Millie and Emily, 11 grandchildren and many close friends.

Don was born in Martinez, Calif., and raised by his parents, Ed and Edith Westbrook (deceased). He grew up throughout Northern California. He attended San Jose High School where he graduated in 1957.

He tried his hand at college but later enlisted in the United States Air Force in June 1958. During his 22 years of dedicated service he traveled the world and earned numerous awards and citations of merit. He retired from active duty service in 1980.

Upon retirement from the USAF he continued to serve his country by working for the United States Postal Service, where he served the country for another 20 years, officially leaving the workforce in 2001.

Don continued to serve in his community by volunteering at the Veterans Administration Clinic and the Mountain Home Visitor Center until his passing.

He loved everything outdoors and his latest passion was riding his Harley Davidson Soft Tail Deluxe.

He was especially dedicated to his family, which was the passion of his life.

He is a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, friend comedian, listener, mentor, supporter, AF airman and always available.
