Parents ready to send kids to school

Wednesday, July 30, 2014

Registration for the 2014 to 2015 school year in the Mountain Home School District begins with online signups this Friday, Aug. 1, and with in-person registration following at most district schools on Tuesday.

Schools will open from 8 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m. for in-person registration, although the district encourages parents to register returning students using the online option.

However, all new students must register in person. That includes all kindergarten students and those new to the local school district.

Food service and bus transportation representatives will be at each school on Tuesday.

Parents of new students must bring their child's vaccination records, birth certificate and any school records from other districts during registration.

To be eligible to enter kindergarten, a child must be at least five years old as of Sept. 1 of this year.

To register online, parents need a Parent Portal account, which they can create on the district's website at www.mtnhomesd.org (if they don't already have one). Once the district's website is accessed, parents should follow the appropriate links.

Each individual school's link from the district site contains additional registration information.

For those without a computer, parents can create portal accounts on computers available at each school as they complete in-person registration for their children.

Parents unsure of which school their child will attend can view the district attendance map on its website or by calling the district administration office at 587-2580.

To register those entering grades 9-12 at Mountain Home High School, parents need to call 587-2577 to make an appointment. To register those preparing to start seventh or eighth grade at Mountain Home Junior High School, parents can make appointments by calling 587-2590.

No appointments are necessary at Hacker Middle School for those entering fifth or sixth grade as well as those enrolling in kindergarten to fourth grade at the local elementary schools.

Meanwhile, intake interviews run from Aug. 11-18 for those planning to attend Bennett Mountain High School. Online registration is not available at that school and appointments are required by calling 587-3837.

School begins Aug. 13.

Internet use POLICY

The Mountain Home school district requires that all students and their parents or guardians sign a network use procedure agreement before the student is allowed to use a computer and/or the internet.

The network use policy and procedures can be found at the district's website or picked up at each school.

The signed agreement is kept on file and carries over from year to year for grades 5-12. If a parent or guardian wishes to make a permission change, it is the responsibility of the parent or guardian to contact the school. Agreements for grades K-4 must be signed each school year.

School supplies

At Mountain Home High School and Mountain Home Junior High School, students need to bring the basics (pen, pencil and paper) the first day of school. Individual teachers will give out supply lists the first few days of school.

The school supply list for the other schools in the district can be found on the district website, or as handouts at local stores selling those products.

MEAL PRICES

Parents may pay for their child's breakfast and lunches meals on line at www.mymealtime.com. They will need their student's nine-digit student identification number to start the transaction.

Meal prices in the district increased slightly compared to last year. Regular-priced breakfast at each of the elementary schools is $1 per day or $20 for a 20-day ticket. At the secondary schools, the cost is $1.25 per day or $25 per month. Reduced price breakfast meals for qualified students is 30 cents per day or $6 per month for all students.

Standard lunch prices at the elementary schools are $2.25 per day or $45 for a 20-day meal ticket.
