Base's new commander shares perspective on changing AF role

His father was a fighter pilot.

He grew up wanting to fly as well, and now Col. David Iverson is the new boss of one of the nation's premier flying units, the 366th Fighter Wing.

For Iverson, it's not enough, however, to simply maintain the wing's combat capabilities -- it's about continuing a legacy.

He'd heard from friends about what a great place Mountain Home Air Force Base was, the great flying weather and the community support. And having spent considerable time when he was growing up in northern Idaho, especially the McCall area where his family still maintains a cabin, he already knew about the beauty of Idaho's mountains.
