Rude parents ruined graduation

Wednesday, June 4, 2014

Dear editor:

I find it interesting that the graduating Class of 2014 from Mountain Home High School had the class motto: "Keeping it Classy."

Apparently, their families, friends and neighbors didn't get the meaning of that.

I have never in my life experienced a ruder, more self centered audience than I did at MHHS graduation night this past Friday.

I went from mildly annoyed to completely and utterly dumbfounded as I watched and heard people speaking out loudly during the valedictorian speeches, rudely exiting in the middle, standing around in front of others who wished to see... to the final, ultimate, unforgivable, offense of flooding the football field and surrounding the graduates while Jeff Johnson was still in the midst of announcing each by name.

My son, who was in the class of 2014 said that before his name was even called, he could see people who were tossing a football in the end zone, while others were congregating around the graduating class, talking on their cell phones, calling out to their graduates and trying to take photos.

It was mayhem.

Those who did this know who they are and they should be ashamed of themselves. You took an auspicious occasion and made it come off as absolutely tacky and you ruined it for those who wanted to hear it and see it.

I love Mountain Home and I think our kids deserve better and we can do better.
