Richard "Dick" R. Herron, 73, of Mountain Home, passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2014, at a Boise hospital.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., on Monday, May 5, 2014, at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel. Inurnment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Mountain Home.

Dick was born Oct. 9, 1940, in Scottsbluff, Neb., the son of Ernest L. and Patricia A. Herron.

Dick married Donna M. Root in Scottsbluff on May 28, 1960. They had two children, Kevra and Kirk.

He received his bachelor's degree at Chadron State College in Nebraska and his master's degree at the University of Utah.

Dick coached football and baseball and taught biology in the Mountain Home School District.

He retired from teaching in 1995 after having taught for 34 years at the Mountain Home Air Force Base, Mountain Home Junior High and Mountain Home High School. He loved those years and all of the wonderful kids that he knew and taught. He also loved his years of coaching.

During those years he loved to fish or hunt anything that swam, flew or ran. He began young as his uncle and father took him with them from the age of 4. They were dedicated hunters, too. He loved being outdoors and the many times he spent at their cabin in Green Creek Subdivision at Pine.

Dick had many good friends that he enjoyed being with and talking over the good old times.

Dick is survived by his wife, Donna, his daughter, Kevra, and her husband, Barry Kubala, his son, Kirk Herron and Barbara Bartee, his adopted son, Neal and his wife, Jill Catalano. He was a proud grandpa of Cody, Brady and Matthew Kubala, Kristy Harvel, Ben Callison and Courtney, Brecken, Landri and Adalin Catalano.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family would like to give a heartfelt thanks to Charlene and her staff at Cedar Crest Care Center for the wonderful and loving care they gave Richard this past year.

Donations in Dick's memory can be sent to the Mountain Home High School Athletic Department, 300 S. 11th East St., Mountain Home, ID 83647.
