The U.S. Postal Service honored a mail carrier from Mountain Home with an award aimed at recognizing heroic acts.

Ken Iverson earned the Postal Hero Award from Mountain Home Postmaster Dan Day during a brief ceremony Monday morning.

Iverson earned the award following an incident March 8. As he prepared to deliver a package at a resident on his route, he heard a loud crash from inside the home. He knew the resident was an elderly woman who lived alone, and he became concerned that she was injured.

Looking into a window, he realized she had fallen and badly injured herself. Iverson entered the residence and provided needed assistance until the woman's family and emergency responders arrived on scene.

Iverson's concern for his customer and quick actions were instrumental in getting emergency medical attention to the resident who would have otherwise been unable to contact emergency services, according to Day.

"Ken's actions in this case are a testament to his character and are a reflection of a proud team of employees at the Mountain Home Post Office," the postmaster added.

The U.S. Postmaster General in Washington, D.C., approved presentation of the award earlier this month. Monday's ceremony coincided with this year's National Superhero Day. The event started April 28, 1995, by a group of employees at Marvel Comics.

"The Postal Service is proud to recognize this extraordinary employee as one of the real superheroes of our community," Day said.

Last year, the Postal Service recognized 262 postal employees for heroic acts in the Postmaster General's heroes program.

"These guys do this more often that we're able to recognize," Day said.
