James L. (Jim) Miller was born May 9, 1942, to Natalie Elmer and Don Hulse in Cincinnati, Ohio. Soon, his parents separated and his family came to Idaho. Natalie met Edward Miller, and they married. Ed adopted Jim and his older brother Don in 1951. Along came a sister, Mary, and a brother, John. Jim graduated high school from Burley High in Idaho in 1960.

While away at college, he met and married his first wife, Christine Brinlee. It was at that time his career in nuclear engineering with General Electric started in California. He liked to tell the story how he told himself he would take the next job offered. GE called and then a skyscraper window washing company called next. Jim hated heights and was glad GE called first.

Two children, Donald (Lori) in 1962 and Natalie (Ed) in 1963, came from this marriage. Jim has six grandchildren, Nicholas, Katharine, Jason, Christian, Brittany and Cheyenne.

Jim's job took him all over from Spain to Taiwan, which he enjoyed immensely. When he did eventually retire from GE in the 1990s and he realized a dream and moved to "The Dome" in Pine, Idaho, which he and family had spent a great many years building. He spent a few years traveling and woodworking but really focused on hunting and fishing. On a duck hunting trip to Tennessee, he met and then married Marilyn Bunn.

Jim and Marilyn spent the past 12 years traveling between the Cabin in Idaho, Marilyn's home in Camden, Tenn., and Lake Havasu City, Ariz., where they enjoyed the warm winters. Jim went on two guided elk hunts and had a great time on those. He spent two weeks a year salmon fishing in Oregon near Gold Beach. There were many trips to Hawaii to go big game fishing and they also took ocean cruises.

Jim passed on Feb. 22, 2014, in Union City, Tenn. There was a memorial service in Camden, Tenn., where he had many hunting friends. A memorial is planned for the Pine-Featherville at the Boise River Senior Center from noon until 2 p.m. on April 12.
