Don Tate

Dayton resident Donal "Don" Lee Tate, 79, died March 10, 2014, at Dayton General Hospital.

A celebration of his life was held Saturday, March 15, 2014, at the Dayton Eagles. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Hubbard-Rogg Funeral Home, 111 South 2nd Street, Dayton, WA, 99328.

Don was born Nov. 1, 1934, to Thomas and Alice (Gaines) Tate, in Mountain Home, Idaho.

He attended schools in Mountain Home, graduating from Mountain Home High School.

He then attended Boise State University for one year.

He entered the United States Army in 1956, was honorably discharged in 1958 and entered the reserve until 1962.

He married Joanna R. Cristobal on June 13, 1959, in Elko, Nev. They moved to the Dayton area in 1966, from The Dalles, Ore.

Don worked as a quality control inspector for the Corps of Engineers until 1983.

He was also the Dayton building inspector and served on the Dayton School Board.

He was an avid hunter and horseman. He enjoyed camping, hunting and waterskiing with his children and grandchildren.

He was a member of the Dayton Eagles and was active in the Booster Club and Dayton Days.

Don enjoyed coaching youth sports, little league and minor league.

He is survived by: his wife, Joanna, of Dayton; three sons and daughters-in-law, William and Molly Tate, Wayne and Jill Tate, and Terry and Barbara Tate, all of Dayton; one sister, Virginia Linklater, of Okanogan, Wash.; three brothers, Harlan Tate of Spokane, Wash., John Tate of Virginia, and Lee Mathis of Utah; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Tom Tate.
