The project, highlighted in green, will be widened and a turning lane installed.

The Burger King intersection of I-84/Highway 30 and Ditto/Frontage Road, just off Exit 90, will be rebuilt in 2015 the Idaho Transportation Department announced this week.

The project has been placed on the ITD Long Range Plan. All engineering work has been completed and bids will be taken later this year for the project, which involves rebuilding and widening the intersection.

The project will begin in the spring of 2015 and is estimated that it will take about three and one-half months to complete.

The 0.4-mile section of road also will be reconfigured to provide a left-turn lane for traffic while allowing through traffic to continue flowing.

The work is designed to improve traffic flow and safety through the intersection.

Between 2003 and 2012 there were 17 crashes and one fatality at the intersection. All but two of the crashes occurred prior to 2008, but the intersection had become dangerous enough to warrant the attention of ITD, which began studying the best way to rebuild it.

According to current plans, the road will not be completely closed during the work, with one lane of the two-lane highway remaining open. The speed limit will be reduced during that time.

Work is not anticipated on weekends or nights, but is not prohibited if needed.
