Sidney R.L. Moore, 81, of Mountain Home, passed away on Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, at a Boise hospital.

Services were held on Monday, Dec. 23, with military honors at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel, and burial followed at Mountain View Cemetery in Mountain Home.

Sidney was born on Oct. 29, 1932, the son of William and Arabella (Reid) Moore. Sidney felt the need to drop out of high school to work and help support the family. Later, he was able to attend night school and received his diploma.

He joined the U.S. Air Force, working in maintenance and as a carpenter.

He married Josephine Black on May 1, 1957, in Victoria, Texas. They lived in Victoria, Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Mountain Home, Idaho, retiring from the Air Force in Aiken, S.C., after 20 years of service, and moved back to Mountain Home in 1972. He briefly worked for the Mountain Home Parks and Recreation Department, the highway department, then at Edgemeade until the school closed.

Sidney loved being with his family. He was a very quiet man, did not talk a lot, but he was comfortable to be with. He did not need to talk for us to know he loved us.

He liked to fish when he was younger, and read Tom Clancy and Clive Cussler and Dale Brown books, but his favorite writer was JRR Tolkien. He also liked to work jigsaw puzzles and watch John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart movies.

Until his hands became too shaky, he enjoyed working with wood -- his favorite item he made was the yellow teak jewelry box he made for his wife Jo.

He enjoyed bird watching. He filled his bird feeders every morning, and then sat in his recliner to watch the birds eat and play.

Sidney is survived by his daughters, Shelley (Brent) Winiger of Nashua, N.H., Vivian Garcia of Mountain Home and Nancy (Modesto) Moore, grandchildren Eric Winiger, Sarah (Michael) Langer, Richard Nathan Garcia, great-grandchildren Lilly Winiger and Riley Winiger, his brother, Alton (Clara) Moore, and his sister, Norma Cherry.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Moore, infant son, brother Luther Moore, sisters Colleen Jackson and Dorothy "Dot" Humphreys, brothers-in-law Paul Cherry and Basil Humphreys, and his parents, William and Arabella Moore.
