Wrestlers pin win in season debut

The Mountain Home Tigers opened their 2013-14 wrestling season with a 38-33 conference dual win over the Nampa Bulldogs Thursday night in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium in Mountain Home.

The Tigers picked up eight wins on the night, three by pins, as Tyler Heath (132 pounds), Jordan Pendleton (138) and Solomon Chung-Hee (285) pinned their Nampa opponents.

Pierce Mederios won by forfeit at 98 pounds.

Tanner Sessions claimed a technical fall (16-0) at 145 pounds, and Kanoa Doronio (113), Blake Spagnolo (182) and Josh Deal (195) won by decisions.

Losing by decisions were Jaime Ibarra (126), Jacob Ryan (170), and Dallin Dearing (195). Losing by pins were Seth Dolan (106), David Welle (120), Levi Abrahamson (152) and Charlie Shoemaker (160).

The Tigers traveled to Nyssa, Ore., on Friday for the Calhoun Classic and came home Saturday with the first place trophy.

Mountain Home won the tourney with 157 points. Nampa was second with 144 and Fruitland third with 127. There were 20 teams competing in the tournament.

Mountain Home had two champions in the tourney, as Pierce Mederios won at 106 pounds, and Solomon Chung-Hee won at 285.

Second-place finishes went to Tanner Sessions at 145 pounds, and Dallin Dearing at 220.

Third-place efforts went to Tyler Heath (132 pounds) and Josh Deal (195), and Jake Ryan was fourth at 170 pounds.

Tiger wrestling coach Lynn Knudson was pleased with the team's weekend efforts.

"It really was a good weekend for us. We had some good things that happened. We went into the second day of the tournament in third place, and had a lot of guys step up and do a good job and win some matches for us. It was a good effort."

Mountain Home finishes second in Gary Miles JV meet

Mountain Home finished second at the 2013 Gary Miles JV Tournament Saturday in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium.

Canyon Ridge won the meet with 151 points, Mountain Home was second with 128, Vallivue had 99, Jerome 94 and Glenns Ferry 57.

Mountain Home had three champions in the JV meet. Hunter McCluskey won the 98-pound weight class, Zack Slack won at 126 pounds, an Abrahan Salas won at 152.

Steven Roberts and Jose Ortiz both placed second, Roberts at 160 pounds and Ortiz at 285. Third place went to Caleb Schnider (113), Daniel Cruz (160), Aaron Spencer (170) and Andrew Westhart (220).

Marxus Bernal (120) and Tristan Jammerman (145) both placed fourth.Dylan Park (120), Andrew Thornburg (138) and Mitch Aguirre (145) placed fifth, and Jermay Essl (182) and Jonathan Kaiser (285) finished sixth.

The Tigers traveled to Middleton Tuesday night for dual matches with Middleton and Homedale.

Their next home match is Dec. 17 against Columbia.
