A Homedale man died in a single-vehicle crash near Glenns Ferry around 1 p.m. Saturday.

Mario Gonzalez Jr., 46, was driving a 1991 GMC Sierra pickup eastbound on the interstate when the truck drifted off the right shoulder.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver didn't apply the brakes or correct his steering. The truck then struck the end of a concrete barrier at the beginning of the Glenns Ferry overpass.

The truck then went airborne before it struck the ground nose-first before it rolled over several times. The vehicle continued to roll down an embankment and came to rest on North Bannock Street in Glenns Ferry.

Gonzales was not wearing a seatbelt prior to the crash and was ejected from the truck, said Deputy Michael K. Gelalia from the Elmore County Sheriff's Office. He suffered significant injuries and died at the scene.

There was no indication that alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash.
