Josephine was born on Sept. 26, 1927, in Pine Ridge, Ore.

She met Albert James Rankin and later married him in Saint Mary's Church, Annapolis, Md, on June 3, 1949. She was a devoted wife and mother. They had only one child, Barbara Ann.

Josephine is survived by: her daughter Barbara and husband Gary M. Smith; and two wonderful grandsons whom she adored, Michael and his wife, Britta, and their daughters Sophia and Melanie, and Joseph and his daughter, AnaKaren; her special love to her niece, Peggy R. Kimbrel; and her nephew, Tommy Vrooman.

My mom was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a loving woman with a beautiful soul. She loved her family so much and embraced life.

She was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Alter Society, Humane Society and the Red Hats with her daughter.

She was the happiest when she was with her family and her great-granddaughters.

Mom will be deeply missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert James Rankin, her father, Henry Joseph Zengerle, her mother, Josephine Padilla, her brothers, Henry, George, Jacob and David, and her sisters, Flora, Francis and Pauline.

Because of her love for animals, the family respectfully requests donation to the Mountain Home Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 10, Mountain Home, ID 83647.
