Flu shots will be provided during the event at North Elementary.

New details have been announced for the annual Health and Wellness Day event this Saturday, Oct. 26, from 7-11 a.m. at North Elementary School, 290 E. 12th North St. in Mountain Home.

A representative from Glenns Ferry Health Center will be giving a verbal presentation at 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. featuring information about the health insurance exchange.

"This is a great way to get the health and wellness information you need in one place" said Doreen Krabbenhoft, St. Luke's Elmore Development director. "The annual Health and Wellness Day has grown to be a comprehensive community education event and everyone is encouraged to attend."

St. Luke's Elmore Center for Community Health has released information regarding multiple vendors and free screenings available for the community.

Tree screening additions include clinical breast exams from Planned Parenthood, blood pressure checks from St. Luke's Clinic Trinity Mountain, and body mass index (BMI) measurements provided by St. Luke's Elmore.

This year's event is continuing the tradition laid down in previous years, offering reduced-rate fasting blood draws, PSA screenings and flu shots.

Additional free services include osteoporosis screenings, sun damage screenings, BMI measures and eye screenings.

New to this year's event will be the inflatable colon walk-through education station provided by St. Luke's Mountain States Tumor Institute.

Pre-registered participants will receive reduced-rate, fasting blood draws for $25 ($30 walk-in rate). The test includes cholesterol, A1c levels and thyroid hormone (TSH) levels. The lab test requires 12-hour fasting prior to the blood draw.

The PSA blood test is offered at a reduced pre-registration rate of $12 ($15 walk-in). Registrations forms are available at the front desk at St. Luke's Elmore and the lobby of St. Luke's Clinic Trinity Mountain or those interested can e-mail wiersmab@slhs.org for a registration form.

Flu shots will only be offered to pre-registered participants. The cost is $16. Anyone who wishes to receive the flu shot must pre-register and must be 18 years or older. Walk-ins cannot be accepted for flu shots. Anyone who is unable to attend the health fair should contact their primary care physician to receive a flu shot.

The St. Luke's Elmore Auxiliary will serve a light breakfast of Egg White Delight McMuffins donated by McDonald's in Mountain Home (while supplies last.)

In addition, the auxiliary members will be accepting holiday orders for See's candy as part of their annual fundraising activities. Orders will be delivered in time for Christmas gift giving.

Vendors announced for the event include the following: Mountain Home Lions Club, Mountain Home Parks and Recreation, Costco, Juice Plus+, Relay for Life of Elmore County, Central District Health Department, Mountain Home Library, Horizon Home Health and Hospice, Treasure Valley Hospice, Elmore County e-911, Counseling Services of Idaho, Asian Body Work, LDS Addiction Recovery, Community Partnerships of Idaho, Western Elmore County Recreation District, Legacy Hospice, Elmore County Domestic Violence Council, and March of Dimes. More may also be added before the event.

Various St. Luke's educational efforts and services will also be represented, including St. Luke's Elmore, St. Luke's Clinic Trinity Mountain, St. Luke's Elmore Auxiliary, St. Luke's Clinic Mountain States Urology, St. Luke's Mountain States Tumor Institute, St. Luke's Breast Care Services, St. Luke's Elmore Volunteers, St. Luke's Elmore Foundation, Air St. Luke's, St. Luke's Elmore Center for Community Health, and an educational booth to help patients and their doctors improve communication during medical appointments.
